I would like to find out if a CNA is allowed to do blood glucose monitoring in South Carolina long term care facilities.

The South Carolina nurse aide training curriculum for nurse aide training programs does not include training on invasive procedures. You can download or view the curriculum beginning on page eight of the "Nurse Aide Training Program State Approval Application and Guidelines" here.

CNAs should not perform any skills or procedures that they were not trained and checked off on to be verified as competent to do any such tasks. Any other skills or advanced training beyond the South Carolina nurse aide curriculum that a CNA is trained or allowed to perform is based upon the training, responsibility and accountability of the licensed provider and the protocols and procedures of the facility.
