An employer might not provide in-service education to a nurse aide. In this case it is the nursing assistant's responsibility to obtain the minimum twenty-four hours of in-service education mandatory for certification renewal. The CNA should also maintain documentation showing he or she attended in-service education. Some of the topics which need to be addressed during the in-service educational activities include: medical error prevention and safety; documentation and legal aspects for CNAs; communication with impaired clients; CPR skills; and resident rights.
