Chattanooga State Technical Community College is a two-year educational institution which provides CNA training classes in Tennessee. The majority of nurse aide training programs in this state are being offered by long-term care facilities and nursing homes. Some students prefer to enroll in a community college instead of pursuing their training in a health care facility. Chattanooga State is one of the top schools providing several short-term, career-oriented programs which will prepare you for employment upon graduation. The certified nursing assistant courses are being offered through the Department of Continuing Education. The state-approved nurse aide programs are currently being conducted during evenings and weekends only. The evening and weekend CNA training schedule allows individuals to keep their current employment positions while attending school for a new career in the health care industry.
The entire program requires one hundred and twelve hours (112) of classroom and clinical instruction which takes place three times per week, for approximately four hours each day. Experienced and dedicated instructors are in charge of conducting the lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Nurse aide trainees learn to care for sick, elderly, or disabled patients as well as to function as effective, competent members of the health care team. All graduates are eligible to sit for the Tennessee nursing assistant competency evaluation. Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

Hello, I have a CNA license in the state of Tennessee and I want to transfer it to Missouri. What do I need to do? Do I need to obtain a Reciprocity Application from the state of Tennessee and then fill out and send it to the state of Missouri? Also, my name has changed so do I take care of that first? Thank you in advance for you help!

You need to start with reporting your name change prior to applying for reciprocity. A name change request must be made in writing to the Tennessee nurse aide registry. You will need to send a legible copy of a legal document that shows the change in name. Acceptable documents to copy include a marriage or a divorce certificate, or some other court order document. You must also include a copy of your social security number and your current name. Send the written change of name request, and copies of the required documents to the Tennessee nurse aide registry. Call the registry to verify this information and to get answers to any additional questions you might have. After your name has been updated on the TN registry you may apply for transferring your nursing assistant certification to Missouri. To qualify for this transfer you must be active on the Tennessee nurse aide registry. The state of Missouri requires that each transfer candidate challenge and pass the Missouri CNA exam in order to become certified in this state. You need to submit copies of the following documents: a copy of your Tennessee CNA certificate, a copy of your social security card, a work verification document showing you have worked for a minimum of eight (8) hours every 2 years from certification, as well as a return address and a phone number where you can be reached. If the Tennessee nurse aide registry keeps a record of your employment, the work verification proof is not necessary. I did not find an application for transferring an out-of-state certification to Missouri. Contact the Missouri Nurse Aide Registry and ask if an application or letter is required for transferring and to get answers to any additional questions you may have. Good luck!
