Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.

Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

Message: Currently there is no listing for a state-approved CNA training program in Westerville, Ohio. You may want to take a look at the list of nurse aide courses and choose one that is close to Westerville. You may also call the Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program at (614) 752-8285 for information about any recent nurse aide training classes available in your area. Nursing homes offer less costly CNA training courses than do private schools or community colleges. A nursing assistant who obtains employment in a nursing home within one year of becoming certified, may request reimbursement for the expenses associated with CNA training and testing. Even though you might have to pay for a nurse aide course out of your own pocket, the cost is reimbursable once you obtain employment within twenty four months of passing the state exam. Good luck!

I was a CNA in PA and my certificate expired in 2005. I now live in Ohio and wanted to know if I have to start all over or if I can just take the CNA exam. I have just graduated from Southwestern College in Franklin Ohio where I received a Medical Assistant diploma.

Because your nurse aide certification has expired, your status is no longer active on the Pennsylvania CNA registry. This makes you ineligible for transferring your credentials to Ohio. To work as a certified nurse aide in Ohio, you need to complete a nursing assistant training program and pass the competency exam in this state. To see if any coursework completed in the medical assistant program may count towards the nurse aide training and also to make sure that the information above is correct, you should call and speak with a representative from the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry at (800) 582-5908 (in-state) or (614) 752-9500 (out-of-state). Good luck!
