Nurse Aide Training Programs in Georgia
Most individuals who are looking to enter the health care field have to follow a structured program of study which includes classroom instruction as well as clinical experiences. This is certainly true for CNA training courses in Georgia, where state-approved educational programs must have a minimum of eighty-five (85) hours of education. Nursing assistant classes in Georgia are being offered at local nursing homes, high schools and technical colleges, state licensed agencies, as well as hospitals and private CNA schools. How much does a nurse aide program cost and is there a difference between the classes offered at one facility versus another? The cost of a nurse aide class depends largely on the facility who is providing the training and whether this facility receives state reimbursement.
For example, students may find the majority of free CNA courses being held by nursing homes and state licensed agencies. Since these types of facilities do receive cost reimbursement from the state they can afford to offer CNA programs at no cost for students. Community colleges, technical schools, hospitals, and private agencies who are not reimbursed, will usually charge for the nurse aide training programs they offer. The current cost of a six week long CNA class being held at a community college is approximately $1,000 and it includes tuition, books, supplies such as blood pressure cuff and uniforms, as well as the Georgia CNA exam fee. Georgia Perimeter College is one of the two-year colleges who trains certified nurse assistants and patient care technicians in several locations, including Clarkston, Decatur, and Lawrenceville Georgia.

Certified Nursing Assistant Training Programs in Georgia ( 2 )
Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

I worked as a CNA for 7+ years, but since the birth of my daughter 3 years ago, I haven't been employed. Also, I was certified in Georgia, and have moved to Virginia. What do I need to do to be able to work as a CNA again?

Because you have not worked as a nursing assistant in the last two years since your last renewal, your certification in Georgia is no longer active. Since your Georgia CNA certification is no longer active, you may not apply for endorsement in Virginia. You have two options available. The first option is to retake the CNA exam in Georgia, become certified, and apply for endorsement in Virginia. Once your endorsement application is approved, you will obtain certification in Virginia without having to retake the nurse aide test in this state. The second option is to retrain and retest in Virginia. With your previous experience it should not be hard to find a free CNA program in Virginia, typically offered by nursing homes in need of additional staff. As soon as you complete the training, you may challenge the Virginia CNA exam. Passing the test will result in obtaining state certification and placement on the Virginia nurse aide registry. If you decide to pursue the first option and recertify in Georgia, you need to contact them via the Interactive Voice Response System to obtain the list of State Approved Test Sites at (678) 527-3010 (local) or (800) 414-4358. The Virginia endorsement application may be found here: Application and Instructions for CNA by Endorsement. Good luck!
