Free CNA Practice Tests and Training Videos
Nurse aide students who are getting closer to completing their CNA courses start thinking anxiously about challenging the CNA state exam. Follow our advice and study tips to pass the CNA certification test on your first try and avoid frustration and disappointment. It is very important to remember that every question on the written part of the exam must be answered. Choose an answer from the multiple choice options of a given question, even if you have to guess. Answers which are left blank on the written nurse aide exam are counted as incorrect and should be avoided at all costs. Guessing is allowed and you should make use of it on the nurse aide competency examination if you do not know which answer is correct. This does not mean that you should skip studying and guess on the entire test.
Spend time testing your knowledge with multiple CNA practice tests, review class notes, and make use of the quizzes and textbook study questions. Always review the explanation of a correct answer so that you understand the rationale behind that answer. To ensure success on the skills part of the nurse aide exam you need to perform the skills multiple times in order to remember the steps correctly. Repetition is the key to success in this case. Time yourself on both the written and the skills part of the exam. Challenge a timed sample test and pick five hands-on skills that you will perform within the allotted time frame used on the actual CNA exam. Timed practice nurse aide exams will help determine if you need to increase the pace so that you will not run out of time on the state examination.

A nursing assistant training course gives you the knowledge and skills required for entry-level CNA jobs, but as a nurse aide program graduate you must prove your competency by passing a state exam. The nurse aide test is the final challenge you need to overcome so that you can hold certification in a particular state. Nursing assistants who move from one state to another and wish to transfer their CNA certificate are also required by several states to sit for the nurse aide competency exam. Candidates challenging this test for the first time might experience a certain level of nervousness and anxiety. These feelings are absolutely normal, and usually subside once the test begins.
Some of the most important things you can do to prepare for the CNA exam include: give yourself enough time to prepare for the test after you complete the nursing assistant training; review your notes and take any available practice tests; practice the skills outlined in the candidate handbook; rest well prior to the exam day, and keep a positive attitude. The nurse aide exam is not identical in every state. If you are applying for transfer of your certification from one state to another and have to challenge the CNA exam, make sure you obtain a candidate handbook from the testing agency in the state to which you are endorsing. This will ensure that you study the material you will be tested on, and that you are aware of any differences in skills or procedures required in that particular state.

Why is it so hard to find a job as a CNA if there is such a high demand for them? I challenged the state test back in April of 2011 and I received my CNA license along with my CPR, basic first aid and BLS certificates and everywhere that I apply they are asking for at least one year of experience in the field and I don't qualify, so what do I do next? I think that I have covered just about every nursing home and hospital in my area and everyone is asking for experience. I have even offered to volunteer and they would not accept it. I am starting to get discouraged.

I understand why you might feel discouraged after searching for an open position at all those facilities and not finding one. Unemployment is high in all areas due to the the difficult economic times that we are all experiencing right now, and as a result employers have many applicants for open positions and can afford to demand previous work experience. I want to encourage you to keep trying to find a CNA job, and to use all the possible resources to locate one in your area. Local newspapers and online job search engines can be a good start. Some of the online listings I looked at did not require experience, but only certification as a CNA. My advice is to keep checking daily, as new jobs are being posted and to not give up. Good luck!
