Facility-based training programs must include a mandatory sixteen hours of instruction prior to a nurse aide student's interaction with a nursing facility resident. The sixteen hours of instruction should cover topics such as communication skills, infection control, safety and emergency actions, and respecting clients' rights. Nurse aide programs offered by community colleges, private schools, or vocational centers have to provide thirty-two hours of instruction designed to cover the same topics listed above.
