A Delaware nursing assistant who wants to be eligible for certification renewal has to meet the following requirements: complete twenty-four hours of approved continuing education while holding an active certification, and perform nurse aide services for a minimum of sixty-four hours, under the supervision of a Delaware licensed nurse or physician. A CNA who fails to complete either of those requirements must retake and pass the nurse aide competency exam. The CNA needs to pass the exam within three attempts in order to avoid retraining. Certification renewal forms and instructions are mailed to all nursing assistants forty-five days prior to the expiration date on the CNA card. There is no fee for renewal of a nurse aide certification in Delaware.
