An emergency medical technician (EMT) can not take the nursing assistant exam in Colorado without first completing a nurse aide training program. A nursing assistant performs a different set of skills than does an emergency medical technician. Because of the difference in the required competencies, only those who attend nurse aide courses or a higher level nursing program are allowed to sit for the Colorado CNA examination.
