Certified nursing assistants in Alaska must comply with specific competency requirements every renewal period. A nurse aide who has been certified for at least two years needs to attend twenty-four hours of continuing education and one hundred and sixty hours of paid work as a CNA. A nursing assistant who has been certified less than two years but more than one year must complete only twelve hours of continuing education in addition to the one hundred and sixty hours of employment. Individuals certified for less than one year at the date of license renewal are exempt from both the continuing education and the employment requirements.
