The Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry was established in 1990, after the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) became law. The main role of the registry is to maintain a list of qualified nurse aides as well as a list of state registered nurse aides who have abused residents in facilities. The lists must be checked by all long term care facilities prior to hiring an individual for a nurse aide position.
