Acute care hospitals may employ individuals as nursing assistants without certification. These employees are not allowed to work on licensed long term care units or licensed sub-acute units. Only certified nurse aides can be employed to work on those units. To obtain certification in New Jersey you need to successfully complete a nurse aide (CNA) training course of ninety hours or a personal care assistant (PCA) program of eighty-five hours.
