You must show proof of paid nursing assistant or nursing-related services in the twenty-four months since your last renewal in order to keep your certification active. I believe you should have at least eight hours or a full day of work for renewal purposes. The facility where you work or have worked submits employment information to the Texas nurse aide registry once a year, however, if the facility does not perform this service then you are required to send the information to the registry.
Nurse aides renewing their certification after September 1, 2013, are required to complete 24 hours of in-service education every two years. All approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Programs are eligible to offer in-service education. Effective November 9, 2015, nurse aides may complete 12 hours of the required 24 hours of in-service in a healthcare entity other than a facility licensed or certified by DADS, by the Department of State Health Services, or by the Board of Nursing.
A nurse aide whose status is listed as expired must complete a NATCEP or a competency evaluation to be listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry with active status.
