Can I renew my expired CNA license without taking the exam?

I have been working as a CNA for many years, but didn't renew my CNA certification the last time it was due. Do I have to retake the exam, or do I just need the form completed that notes I have been working as a CNA for the last 24 months? My current position doesn't require a CNA license, but I would like to continue to be classified as a CNA.

Some states allow you to simply submit the renewal form late, others require you to also pay a late fee, while some may require you to retake the exam.
