CNA Training Programs in California
What schools are offering affordable, low cost CNA training classes in Redding, California? One of the low cost nurse aide programs in the Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity Counties is offered by the Shasta College, a two-year community college. The cost of the CNA training course is $600 and it includes all the expenses for tuition, physical exam and required immunizations, textbooks, supplies, uniform and shoes, name badge, CPR certification, and the state CNA examination. You will learn to perform all the nurse aide skills necessary for employment in a long term care facility, home health, or hospital environment. The nursing assistant program is approved by the California State Department of Health Services and it requires a full semester of study.
Nurse aide graduates receive a certificate of program completion and are eligible to sit for the California nurse aide (CNA) certification exam. Nurse assistant and home health aide courses are being offered in the fall, spring, and summer semesters, with a maximum of forty-five students admitted during the fall and spring classes and fifteen students in the summer classes. Because of limited space during the short summer sessions, those interested in the CNA training course are encouraged to register early. A high school diploma is not necessary to qualify for admission into the nurse aide or home health aide courses. Prospective students interested in the nurse aide training classes are encouraged to attend information sessions which are held every month at the Shasta College Red Bluff campus.

Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.
